Thermo-Cuts Extreme is the stronger version of the Optimum Nutrition dietary supplement called Thermo Cuts. This nonprescription diet pill has a very similar (long) list of ingredients to its cousin, but also includes hydroxycitric acid (HCA) as an ingredient.

Not only are many reviewers already claiming that this product is simply another ineffective OTC diet pill, but it is also being compared to other supplements containing HCA which are being suspected of causing the side effects that have led the FDA to speak out against several different dietary supplements for weight loss.

FDA Warns About Using Certain Products

In May of 2009, the FDA released a statement that recommended that all users of Hydroxycut diet products should stop using them right away as they have a risk of liver-related side effects  that can be anywhere from mild to life-threatening.

Though Thermo-Cuts Extreme is not made by Hydroxycut (which recalled every one of their products), it does include the ingredient HCA which is suspected to be the culprit behind the many undesirable side effects that had been seen in the Hydroxycut products. These side effects include:

  • Jaundice
  • Light colored stools
  • Brown urine
  • Itching
  • Weakness
  • Stomach pain
  • Vomiting
  • Loss of appetite
  • Unusual fatigue
  • Other liver-related issues

Thermo-Cuts Extreme Ingredients

The Thermo-Cuts Extreme formula includes:

  • Chromium – An ingredient with conflicting clinical trial results
  • Garcinia Cambogia Extract – The source of the HCA
  • NeOptuna Extract
  • Caffeine Anhydrous – A fancy word for caffeine, a stimulant which can boost energy, though it does often lead to stimulant-related side effects such as sleeplessness, headaches, and jitters
  • Phase 2 Brand White Kidney Bean Extract – Can help with weight loss, but only in high concentrations, which is unlikely within the Thermo-Cuts Extreme formula
  • Green Tea Extract – Has the potential to be effective in very high doses that are unlikely within this pill
  • Promilin
  • Conjugated Linoleic Acid – CLA can contribute to weight loss when taken in high doses, but not in the lower doses of Thermo-Cuts Extreme
    L-Carnitine
  • Grapefruit Peel Extract
  • Bioperine – Helps the body to absorb nutrients from food but has never been shown to help with weight loss
  • Vanadyl Sulfate

Other Things to Consider

Though it may look like an inexpensive product at $25.99 (at the time this Thermo-Cuts Extreme review was written) per 200 capsules, since you are required to take as many as 12 of those capsules every day, a single bottle will last only 16 days, requiring two bottles (and 400 capsules!) per month. This is neither inexpensive nor realistic considering that the ingredients do not show promise for being very effective at assisting with weight loss.

The bottom line is that due to a lack of evidence about the safety and efficacy of these ingredients and the fact that it contains HCA, it would probably best to avoid taking Thermo-Cuts Extreme.

Thermo-Cuts Extreme Update – June 2020

Thermo-Cuts Extreme is no longer available for purchase. Optimum Nutrition is still in existence and continues to sell weight management aids. However, Thermo-Cuts Extreme is not a part of the products it sells. This is most certainly for the better considering the formula contained a number of unproven ingredients as well as far too many in order for them to have the potential to be beneficial to the user.

Avoid Diet Pills with Too Many Ingredients

It is important to check out the ingredients in any diet pill formula you are considering purchasing and (more importantly) ingesting. It is not only imperative to make sure you are not allergic to any of the substances, but also to investigate the quantities of these substances and what potential benefits these ingredients can provide based on clinical research that has been conducted on them.

As a general rule, it’s typically best to avoid products like Thermo-Cuts Extreme that have a long list of ingredients (inside or outside of a blend). The reason isn’t only because this could mean the potential for a wider range of unwanted side effects, but also because, typically, the more ingredients a formula has, the less likely they are to offer you any real benefits as there won’t be enough of each ingredient included in the formula for it to make any difference to your weight loss efforts. It’s far better to spend your money on products that are actually worth your time.

MET-Rx CLA Tonalin 1000 is a dietary supplement developed for weight management, toning and to support body shaping goals.

More specifically, MET-Rx, the manufacturer of this diet pill product, says that Tonalin 1000 was “designed for elite athletes, bodybuilders and anyone striving to get into peak condition.”

One Active Ingredient

When this MET-RX CLA Tonalin 1000 review was written, there was only one active ingredient in the formula: Tonalin CLA (from Safflower Oil), which contained 78-84% Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA). There was 1000 mg of this ingredient per 1 softgel serving.

CLA is a popular OTC (over the counter) weight loss diet pill ingredient as well as a popular ingredient for body building and fitness supplements. It is commonly believed to work by modulating oxidative enzyme activity and energy metabolism. In other words, it may help to lower body fat deposits and boost immune function.

There have been some studies conducted on humans involving CLA and its effects on obesity. Some studies suggest that taking CLA by mouth daily may help to lower body fat in adults. It may also lower feelings of hunger, however, it is not known if this results in lowered food intake.

That being said, conjugated linolenic acid does not seem to decrease BMI (body mass index) or prevent weight gain.

Additionally, one study notes that there has been little clinical research that has analyzed the effects of CLA on its own or in combination with physical exercise in humans. As such, clinical evidence regarding the efficacy of CLA’s ability to change body composition and other benefits remains insufficient.

MET-Rx CLA Tonalin 1000 Side Effects

It should be noted that even though there is only one active ingredient and that there are no stimulants in MET-Rx CLA Tonalin 1000, this does not mean that this product is safe to take for everyone or that it is without unwanted side effects.

Possible side effects associated with CLA include (but are not necessarily limited to):

  • Upset stomach
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Backache
  • Headache
  • Increased risk of bleeding

What to Consider Before You Buy

If MET-Rx CLA Tonalin 1000 sounds like an ideal supplement worth trying, consider the following before purchasing:

  • There is no guarantee that this diet pill will work as the manufacturer claims.
  • There is insufficient clinical evidence to prove that CLA offers effective support for weight loss, fitness or bodybuilding.
  • Side effects are possible.
  • CLA is not safe for everyone. If you have an existing medical condition, are taking medication or herbal supplements to treat a health condition, or if you are pregnant, nursing or planning on becoming pregnant, you should consult with your doctor prior to taking MET-Rx CLA Tonalin 1000.

CLA Superior is a nonprescription diet pill that is marketed as a top solution for losing weight as well as slimming down and toning the body. Clearly this is a very common claim within this industry, but there are some products that are far better than others, so it’s a good idea to do some research into each one you are considering before you decide on something specific.

In the case of CLA Superior, like other diet pills, it’s a good idea to begin your efforts with a visit to the doctor. That way, you can know with much more certainty whether or not this is likely to be both safe and effective for you to use. Keep in mind that just because this is safe for some people. it doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be appropriate for you and your medical conditions, or any supplements or medications you happen to be taking.

The official website for this product claims that it has been scientifically proven to be able to produce the results that it claims dieters will achieve through its use, which include fat burning, preserving lean muscle mass and boosting the metabolism. In fact, it goes so far as to take shots at the research cited by other products, which is often based only on studies in which mice were the subjects.

That said, after all the song and dance over appropriate research, the site doesn’t bother actually citing any large and reputable studies published in medical journals. While there has been some research conducted on CLA, it hasn’t necessarily been considered to be proven as being directly responsible for weight loss through fat burning.

One study was mentioned by the site, though nothing was mentioned with regards to who conducted it, where it was published or what specific methods were used. It did say that it occurred in Scandinavia, but no more details about the research – other than the outcomes – were mentioned. Without that information, it could easily be referring to research that was not conducted scientifically and that would not be deemed acceptable by the medical community.

The only active ingredient in CLA Superior is conjugated linoleic acid from natural safflower oil. To take this pill, two capsules need to be taken two or three times per day. As each bottle contains 90 capsules, this means that a bottle will last 15 to 22 and a half days, depending on how many pills are taken each day. At $33.25 per bottle (discounted from a full price of $57.77 on the official website), the cost of using this product would add up very quickly.

Sculpt CLA Capsules are a nonprescription weight loss tablets that are manufactured by L.A. Muscle, which was made to help to shed the extra pounds while preserving lean muscle mass. It is marketed as being 100 percent natural and as having a patented formula. This product has been created to help people who want to be able to keep up their training goals while they get rid of unwanted fat. It is designed to be taken in conjunction with a high protein diet and a regular exercise program.

The ingredients that make up this formula are conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), essential fatty acids, and vitamin E. The directions for the product recommend that one capsule be taken three times per day, with meals.

The official website for this product, on the L.A. Muscle websites says that Sculpt CLA Capsules will get “you super-lean, super fast!”. However, there isn’t much in the formula that suggests that this will be the case. The conjugated linoleic acid has certainly been scientifically studied and has been shown to be quite promising for encouraging weight loss among people who are overweight and obese, but on its own, it is not something that will promote weight loss that is “super fast”.

None of the other ingredients within the formula have been proven to enhance weight loss by any large human studies conducted by reputable organizations that have been published in peer reviewed journals.

The Sculpt CLA Capsules page on the official manufacturer’s website makes frequent reference to a study that it does not directly say proves the effectiveness of the pill, but it is certainly mentioned in a way that would suggest that something was proven when it was conducted. That said, a link to this 2007 study does not reveal who actually conducted it. It also showed that it was considered to be a pilot study and not one that was large enough to be considered to be proof of anything. Essentially, all that it managed to do was determine that further study would be needed. It was also not a study that looked into the effectiveness of the pill for weight loss. It was determining if the antioxidant potency was greater than the concentrations found in pure vitamin E. Even that determination was not conclusively made, and further study was recommended.

It would be difficult to discover any reason to recommend this product over many other rival products that are currently available on the market.

Body Perfect CLA 500 is a nonprescription weight loss supplement that is based on conjugated linoleic acid and that is designed to assist its users with weight management and in the reduction of body fat. The official webpage for the product on the website of the manufacturer, Bio-Synergy Ltd., says that using this product helps the body’s fat burning abilities and that the main ingredient has been shown to improve lean muscle and to reduce body fat.

There are two primary steps that should be taken before considering the use of this product. The first is to speak with a doctor – as it may not be appropriate or even safe for everyone to use – and the second is to have a good look at the ingredients and any research that has been conducted on them, particularly with regards to their impact on weight loss.

At the time that this review was written, the ingredients listed in Bio-Synergy’s Body Perfect CLA 500 were: conjugated linoleic acid, as well as the non-medicinal ingredients of gelatin, humectants, glycerol, water, and soya lecithin, which made up the capsule and the texture of the substance inside.

There have been a number of studies on CLA that have shown that it can be helpful for people whose goal it is to reduce their body fat levels, or who are bodybuilders. The research has also shown that when taken in the appropriate amount in conjunction with a healthy diet and a regular fitness appropriate exercise program, it can also reduce the symptoms of metabolic syndrome. None of that research was cited from the actual website. Though the official webpage for the product did say that it had research to prove that this ingredient worked, it didn’t actually make reference to any individual study, nor did it provide links where that information could be verified. The studies that were found for the purposes of this review were discovered through searches in medical journals.

The directions provided on the official webpage for the product say that between three and six capsules must be taken throughout the day. It doesn’t state whether they should be taken with water or food. That said, no more than six pills should be taken each day. The webpage also doesn’t recommend any specific diet or exercise program to use in conjunction with Body Perfect CLA 500, which could make it harder for users to be able to obtain the maximum possible results from the product.

The dietary supplement Tonalin CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) is manufactured by a number of different companies and is marketed with the claim that it will help to reduce extra body fat while boosting lean muscle mass. This main ingredient, CLA, has been producing a large amount of controversy over the last little while. Though it has been known to produce some effects toward weight loss, there are some very undesirable side effects associated with the ingredient, and the amount of CLA required to be useful is very close to the amount where it becomes dangerous.

CLA is a chemical which is found within fatty acids and when taken orally can have side effects that include nausea, upset stomach, diarrhea, and fatigue. Furthermore, a study performed by researchers at the University of Guelph, published in 2007, found that CLA causes the body to lessen its insulin sensitivity. Insulin is the chemical released by the pancreas that allows the body to manage the glucose (sugar) in the blood. When people already have troubles with their glucose levels, such as in the case of hypoglycemia and diabetes, this can be dangerous. Decreased insulin sensitivity is especially dangerous for people who are at risk of type 2 diabetes – such as people who are obese.

CLA also increases the duration of bleeding as well as the likelihood that it will happen. Though for most people, this is a very minor risk, should there be a severe accident during the time of the use of the drug, or if immediate surgery is ever required, the risk of such increased bleeding can become dangerous. Those with stomach or digestive ulcers would also be put at risk with the increased bleeding from CLA.

A study in Portugal at Covilhã University Hospital published in 2008 found that the use of CLA increases the risk of inflammations of the liver and hepatitis. It is also not uncommon for the sudden onset of allergies to CLA which can cause a rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, facial swelling, and swelling in the extremities.

It is important to note that because Tonalin CLA is considered to be a dietary supplement and is not an actual medication or prescription drug, it has not been evaluated for safety or efficacy by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), nor is it regulated by them.

Before considering the purchase of this drug, it is very important to speak with your doctor to find out whether or not this is the right choice for you.
