If you’ve looked into weight loss options that are available to you today, you’ve likely seen a lot of mention of Phentermine. Although Phentermine is not for everyone, it is still considered safer than weight loss surgery and more effective than just dieting on your own with diet changes and exercise. Since it’s introduction as a weight loss medication back in the 1970′s, Phentermine has become one of the best medications proven to help patients lose weight.

What is Phentermine?

Phentermine is a drug that is prescribed along with exercise and diet in order to help treat obesity. In particular, it is mostly prescribed for patients who are struggling with conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. It is a stimulant drug which functions in a way that is similar to amphetamines by affecting the nervous system to suppress the appetite.

Phentermine is a prescription drug, so it is legally available only with a doctor’s permission, and should be taken only according to the prescribing doctor’s directions, as will be printed on the bottle for the pills. This medication works most effectively when it’s taken on an empty stomach ahead of eating breakfast, or at least within two hours of having already eaten breakfast. As this is a stimulant, it can lead to sleep difficulties. In order to combat this effect, it is important that the drug be taken no later than 6:00pm every evening.

Phentermine Diet Pills

Should you feel that your medication is not working properly, or if hunger should increase instead of being suppressed, it is important to speak to your doctor. It is important to note that taking more of this drug does not increase its efficacy, but will make the risk of potentially dangerous side effects. Never change the dosage of this medication without first talking to a doctor.

Phentermine is a drug that is designed to be taken only for a short period of time. This usually consists of a month and a half. It allows the dieter to learn the proper habits for weight loss without having to experience as many of the unpleasant symptoms associated with that effort, before they continue without the assistance of the drug. Over time, the effectiveness of Phentermine will decrease. It is vital not to continue taking Phentermine any longer than has been prescribed as unpleasant side effects can result, as can addiction. That said, the use of Phentermine should also not be stopped suddenly without the direction of a doctor, to ensure that withdrawal symptoms do not occur.

A missed dose should be taken as soon as it is remembered, but if the next dose is approaching, the missed one should be skipped altogether. The dose should never be doubled to make up for a missed one.

It is important to avoid the consumption of alcohol while using Phentermine because it will worsen the effect of the alcohol – impairing your judgment and thinking – and will increase some of the side effects of the drug.

    Hi,

I am wondering what kind of side effects people are having from Phentermine? Did it help you lose weight? I am thinking of talking to my doctor about this drug but want to know what kind of experience others have had with it as well. Thanks!

    • Renee

I lost 45 lbs in 3 months with the help of Phentermine. It was not without it’s side effects though. I experienced a dry mouth, constipation, the jitters. Feels like you just slammed a pot of coffee. I does make you not want to eat though, and I guess that is whole point. Be careful coming off it to not start eating again like you used to or you will gain back every single pound and then some.

    • bb

There are lots of side effects that can happen, most common are rapid heartbeat, dry mouth, jitters and constipation. I lost 10lbs my first week. If you search for reviews on this drug, you can find lots of success stories. Good luck!

      • Tanya

You said you lost 10lbs your first week, what exactly did you do to lose the 10lbs as far as exercise and eating goes? I just started my pills today and wanted to know what to do to see the difference my first week.

        • KC_V

          @Tanya-
I lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks. I followed the Duken diet as well as taking Phentramin D. I ate only protein for 7 days i.e. lots of lean meats and non fat dairy. That got rid of 10 lbs right there. Then you start introducing vegetables. You can look it up online or order the book it works well. Bascially stay away from carbs and fat and you will lose weight.

        • Tracy

I lost 15 lbs in the first two weeks! I go to the gym for an hour three times a week, cut out all beverages except water (you’ll drink lots of it because a common side effect is dry mouth) and eat vegetables, fruits, fish. I cut out breads and carbohydrates, also. It’s not to be a way of life to take the phentermine but the weight loss gives you motivation to continue. Good Luck!

    • jennifer

i started taking it 3 months ago and i have lost 28 lbs. the only side effect i have is dry mouth. just chew gum or have hard candy and its fine. i also have no trouble sleeping. when taken in the morning it gives u the energy to go all day. the first day i took it was the only time i felt jittery and it laste d about 2hrs. i would recommend phentermine if u r struggling with weight loss.

      • wally

Ya I chew that sugarless desert gum all the time. It keeps my mouth busy which also helps with not wanting to eat as well as the dry mouth. My favorite is the Orange Strawberry from Trident.

    • p_ohler

Thanks for all the replies. The side effects do concern me specifically the rapid heart. The others I could live with but that one might be a deal killer for me. I have had palpitations before and it was not fun.

    • Laudie

I have been taking it for a month now and Have not recived any side effects as of date. Except one time I took it too late in the day by accident and I could not sleep at all till about 6am however it doesnt make you feel like ur on drugs, its just a I wish I could sleep feeling. Its a great pill and Really does work, I havent weighed myself just yet. My mothers been taking it for about 5 months no side effects at all either.

  • lorraine c.

I wished I had found Phen D a lot sooner in life as it has helped me to lose 50 lbs. Don’t just rely on the pills alone though, you need to have a healthy eating & exercise plan in place. I do yoga and walk 3x per week.

  • Brenda

I started taking Phen January 25th 2012, as of last week I’ve lost 70lbs:) my side effects have only included dry mouth but that was mostly at the beginning.

    • ARLENE

thats awesome. any tips you can give me on what you did to lose all that i only lost 60lb on phen and took me 5 months. How are you keeping ti off?

  • Tanya

I just got my perscription. What type of excercise did you guys do? I just started walking 3 miles, 4 times a week is that enough to lose the pounds like you guys did? What type of meals did you guys eat? I would love too lose the weight like you have in a month. I’ve been walking for 3 weeks now and have not lost 1 pound :o ( my doctor just perscribed this medication to see if it helps.

    Please help

    • KC_V

That is great that you are walking and there are so many great health benefits to walking besides weight loss but if you really want to lose weight I am going to be honest it’s really the diet that does it. Some ppl will argue but it’s all about what you put in your mouth. You can exercise till the cows come home but if you are still eating too much YOU WILL NOT LOSE A POUND. Eat only lean meats like boneless skinless chicken breast, seafood, turkey. Eat as many veggies as you like just no dips or sauces. Eat one no more then one or two fruits a day. Eat only whole grains if you are going to eat bread and no more than one piece per day. If you eat a bagel, do it with low fat cream cheese and only eat half. No fast food or junk food.

  • julia stein

I took phentermine on and off for 6 weeks and I lost 20 lbs. I worked out almost every day and I was on a strict diet of veggies and protien. It really makes you aware of how much you are eating and cuts your portion sizes in half. I have about 30 more lbs to go but I am very optimistic.

  • Zack

I have been on this drug for 9 days. I lost 8 LB and I feel great. I exercised 2 times on those 9 days. The side effective is been mild for me. Its great drug and I am under MD supervision for this medication. I am 31 yrs old, 6′ and 212 LB now. I hope that helps.

  • ARLENE

I lost 60lbs in 5 months it really does work. make sure to drink lots of water even when not thirsty your body will need it. i was lucky i only got side effects for my first day and then i was fine. becareful because its a change for your body you want to take it easy and do not cheat stay positive. A support team is what helped me.

  • Reina

I was just now prescribed Phen, today is my first day. My doctor said I need to loose 45lbs. I would really like to loose it as quick as possible so I can go into the next step of my infertility treatments any suggestions?

    • KC_V

Try doing a diet program such as Weight Watchers alongside of taking Phentermine. That will really speed up your weight loss and give you the best chance of success rather then just taking the pills willy nilly and hoping for the best. Not to mention it will really teach you how to make healthy choices and it’s not overly restrictive. 45 lbs is not too, too much, you can do this :)

  • Francine

Support group is great advice especially for when you come off the pills you will need to surround yourelf with people who will encourage the healthy eating because your body will do everything in it’s power to expand back to what it was.

  • CORINNE

I started on phentermine on exactly 05/01/2012 I have lost exacly 15 pounds it works you just need to be sure and drink plenty of water. Make sure you do not full fill the late evening cravings. Be sure and get active aerobics cardio zumba is what I take and I love it. Really must change your eating habits for this product to truly work. Not over eating, eating right portions, increasing your fruits veggies. All of this is a plus for increased weight loss using this supplement.

    • jessie

That is very good advice Corinne! I could not have said it better myself. You will get out of this pill exactly what you put into it. Use this time to learn how to eat better and keep yourself motivated by your weight loss to not fall back into your old habits.

  • Sandra

Just wondering if anyone has experienced a dry throat. My mouth not dry. Its like a certain spot in back of throat and I don’t know if I’m having allergic reaction or just side affects. Please if anyone could help. I don’t wanna stop taking Phentermine but I don’t want to feel like my throat is closing up. Its a dry feel and its seems like my throat is half the size. Maybe something is swollen. I also have hives which I heard is rare

  • jessie

    @ Sandra,
Hmmm, if you have hives that sounds like an allergic reaction. I did a search and most people don’t report hives as a side effect. Dry mouth, little jittery, light headaches yes, but not hives. My gut says it’s an allergic reaction and you should probably stop. Or, go see a doctor asap and find out what is going on.

  • jjazmine

I am on week one and I have already lost 5 pounds. It does work but I am trying to eat reasonably healthy as well. I am not doing any exersize tho. I hate the gym and can’t be bothered. No side effects. At least not yet.

  • Chewby

This works well but the only side effect is lack of sleep. I am losing weight but sleep is important to me too so don’t know for how much longer I will take it.

    • jazmine

      @chewby

I had a bit of trouble sleeping on my first night, so I started taking my second dose earlier in the day so that by my bed time the effects had worn off and now I sleep just fine.

  • AhappyME

I have been on phentermine for 6 days. I am 27yo 5’5 and starting weight of 200. I am down 3.5 lbs in 6 days. I have been eating healthier and smaller portions but still allow myself to have what I want from time to time. I just started exercising as well. So I hope the weight will continue to come off quickly if I continue good habits. *Sandra, I have the dry throat as well. My mouth is not dry either. Just my throat. Otherwise I dont really have any side effects. Only one night have I had trouble sleeping

  • angie81

In addition to losing a bit of weight I find this is actually really helping my chronic fatigue because of all the energy I now have. I can’t believe how sedantary I used to be.

  • lana

Has anyone tried Phentramin D the Phentermine alternative? I am looking into this option as I have read some good things about it but want to know if any other have tried it first hand.

    • april

Hi just thought I would respond- I ordered phentramin d the alternative and have been on it for about a month. I will say that yes I think it does work. You will feel a lot of extra energy and it is a pretty good appetite suppressant. I have lost 14 lbs since taking it. It’s helped take away a lot of cravings (I have a big problem with eating infront of the tv epecially in the evening) and I seem to be eating less overall. You feel more satisfied with little amounts.

      • lana

Thanks just want to post back that I have been taking it for one month and I am down 11 pounds without doing any exercise at all. I am sure I could lose more if I worked out but if others are wondering it works like a hot damn and to get rid of your appeitite. Another 9 lbs and will be at my goal of 135.

  • Nicole Castillo

23 days ago, i started phentermine and went to the doctor today and lost a total of 18 pounds!! Yea WOW!! I was 243 and now 225. In 30 days i expected to lose no more than 10 pounds! The real key here is if you are overweight like me. The first thing you need to do is start on a 1200 calorie diet with these pills. I count them with my fitness pal and you can just scan your foods you eat.It gets addicting!I also up my calories by 200-300 calories on the weekends and dont take the pill on these days! And it doesnt really matter what(well it does, more whole foods like veggies and chiken, yogurt.oatmeal etc.You have to eat to lose! If you only eat under the 1200 calories your body will go into starvation mode and the next time you eat anything bad, you will gain weight!! Out to eat alternatives is at arbys the junior roast beef sandwhich has 210 calories with the bun!And i usually eat 2 per meal and thats it. You can drink diet pop and flavored water. At taco johns, I eat 2 chicken softshell tacos with sourcream and it comes to be about 200 calories each! It also doesnt matter what time you eat. I USUALLY eat breakfast, lunch, dinner and about a 200 calorie snack at night(usaully choclate fudge cake and ice cream! I like smart ones in the freezer isle. Good luck and if any questions or help I am on spark.com or just email me, chinocollege@yahoo.com Good luck to you all!

    • Jessie K.

Thank you Nicole!! I am well up over 200 lbs and you have given some really good and inspring advice. I have just started taking Phentramin D and I hope to have the same success as you. ONe question- how are you scanning your foods? Or are you just reading the calorie labels? thanks

  • K. Foley Keith

I am taking Phentramin D and I have lost 8 lbs since sunday I am so happy I could cry!! I am going to the gym today and I am starting weight watchers this week as well to make sure I am making good food choices. I really want to learn to make this a lifestyle and way of life for me. I am soooo much happier when I am thinner and life is just “better.” Anyone else doing weight watchers? Did it work for you? I am curious to others experiences and I will share mine as well :)

  • leigha

Ok so I weighed myself this morning and I am 279. I think I have at least 120 lbs to lose (I am 5’7″.) I have already stopped eating a lot of meat and I only eat brown bread, brown rice and whole grain pastas. I do eat a lot of vegetables and I am now not eating anything after 7:00 pm. I know that my biggest thing is that I eat our of bordem and I don’t get much exercise. I am starting Phentramin D tomorrow and I really hope this new will power along with these other new changes will get me well on my way. Thinner me here I come!

    • Kara

Sounds like you are well on your way. I need some good ideas too on how to lose weight as I am really struggling with it. Nice to know others are in the same boat. Let me know if the PhenD helps you lose anything as I am curious about it!

      • leigha

I have lost 29 lbs to date and my current weight is 249. I am starting to see the light. About 90 more to go but I am feeling really posative now about this.

      • Dreamer

        @ Kara

        Some easy tips:

        - don’t eat anything with refine sugar i.e. sweets, sodas,
        - dring water only
        - don’t eat more then one slice of bread per day (and eat the whole grain variety)
        - keep other starches to a minimum i.e. potatoes, corn etc. avoid them if possible.
        - chew ice chips to keep your mouth busy
        - eat small snacks thru-out the day i.e. fruit, slice of cheese, non fat yogurt, granola bar etc.

  • leigha

Ok I have done 3 weeks and I am down 11.5 lbs so now 267.5. Still a long way to go but at least I am losing. I do think the phen d is helping me eat less, but I think I could still stand to eat even less. Overall I am feeling much better about myself as I finally feel like I am actaully doing something about my weight and I am somewhat in control. I will post again soon.

  • c. richter

If you take phentramin d and go on a diet of nothing but fruit and vegetables will you lose weight?

  • lena

yes but it would be more of a cleanse because your body needs protiens and also you would have to limit the amount of fruit because fruit contains a lot of sugar and too much of it will cause fat cells to grow in size.

  • PJ Mathews

Started phentramin D and so far I am not hungry at all. I have to remind myself to eat (which I am happy about) but I do have trouble sleeping sometimes. In general tho, this is has been a posative experience as I have lost 11 lbs in 2 weeks time.

  • corie

I loved the way phentermine made me feel, the energy was great and it even improved my concentration. The only problem was (and it was a big problem) was that I could not sleep. I stopped taking it and swtiched to PhentraminD. For me it’s not quite as strong as true Phentermine, but at least I can sleep and I get that good buz where I don’t want to eat/.

  • Marcie13

Just wanted to say I have lost over 100 lbs with Phentermine, and it’s the best feeling in the world. I now weigh less then my husband ;) , feel MUCH better in the bedroom, I can actually paint my own toenails, I feel good about who I am, and I am in a healthy BMI range. I am ready to live. There is no drug as good as being thin.

  • Kellog

I am taking Phentermine and my doc has me on water pills also. The secret then is to eat plenty of whole foods i.e. fruits, veggies, oatmeal, yogurts, lean protein sources, brown rice etc. I also eat a small meal every 3-4 hrs and get your body moving for at least 30 minutes per day. It does NOT have to be exercise. Just do something that makes you MOVE. Good luck and God Bless to all.

  • Bronzer

I find Phen works well with my appetite but I find I still eat a lot, but it’s MUCH easier to stop eating. I get fuller faster, but I never feel like I don’t want to eat or anything like that. I lost 13 lbs in a month.

  • Jinster

I am on month 3 and still not hungry at all. I thought I would be hungry by now but it’s still very strong. My friends are starting to think I don’t eat anymore but it’s because I am never hungry at the same times as them. Oh well I am losing weight so it’s worth it!
